- Hillsdale College boasts rigorous academics and a distinctive core curriculum anchored in the Western Tradition, drawing upon the Greco-Roman culture and Judeo-Christian faith.
- All enrolled students sign Hillsdale's Honor Code, pledging themselves to the goal of self-government. Students are asked to go beyond basics like not cheating or stealing and to give serious thought and effort to the practice of virtue and pursuit of honor.

- Hillsdale operates independently of federal and state funding, yet flourishes financially, thanks to the past and continuing generosity of supporters nation-wide.
- Though Hillsdale remains unaffiliated with any religious organization, spiritual life is important to both faculty and students who come from a variety of faith backgrounds. In fact, Princeton Review recently listed Hillsdale students as the fourth most religious in the country.
- Unique courses in Hillsdale's core curriculum are Western and American Heritage, Rhetoric and the Great Books, and a course in the U.S. Constitution.
- Hillsdale aims to open its distinctive curriculum to a wider audience through free, online, not-for-credit versions of the Western Heritage and Constitution courses, as well as through public lectures on current topics both on campus and at the Washington, D.C.-based Kirby Center. Many of these lectures are featured in the monthly Imprimis speech digest, which has a readership of over 2.6 million.
- Hillsdale consistently receives favorable rankings from U.S. News and World Report, Princeton Review, Peterson’s Guide, and is named a Best Value liberal arts college by Forbes and Kiplinger magazines.

- Students have the opportunity to spend a semester or more at Hillsdale's Washington, D.C. hub, the Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship. Students can opt to take core courses while living in D.C., or participate in for-credit internships at places including the U.S. House and Senate, the White House, national security agencies, policy organizations, news outlets, and private companies.
- Study Abroad options exist in France, Germany, Spain, Argentina, England, and Scotland as formal programs, though custom programs can often be arranged.
